COULTER SIGNS FOR NEW SEASON

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce that Joe Coulter will be returning to the team for the new 2022/23 NIHL season.

Coulter played for the Wild during the 2021 behind closed doors “streaming” series of matches, and was a member of the team that won the North Cup and the Division 1 National Championship. In 16 games for Widnes, he scored 5 goals, 11 assists and incurred 14 penalty minutes.

Joe played most of his early career in Dumfries where he won numerous trophies with the Solway Sharks. He played for the Leeds Chiefs in their debut season in the NIHL National Division in 2019/20 and then returned to the re-branded Leeds Knights last season. In all, he has played 335 senior matches to date, scoring 49 goals, 154 assists, and taking 154 PIM.

Talking about his return to the Wild, Coulter said:

“I’ve won a lot of trophies at this level, now it’s time to do it in black and yellow! I loved every minute of my first spell at Widnes and always knew I’d be back one day. This is a great group of guys on the ice and the back room staff have so much passion for the game, it is the type of environment you need for success! I’m excited to play in front of those Wild fans too, I’ve heard they really bring that noise on game night!”

Wild player coach Richard Haggar said of Coulter: “Joey is an exceptional talent who will bring energy, excitement and a desire to take Widnes to a new level. Having played with Joey in the streaming series, it was a no-brainer that we brought him in after having conversations with him. He will lead by example both on and off the ice giving 110%. He is the perfect fit for Widnes and I am looking forward to him showing what he can do in front of the Wild fans.”

Joe will wear the number #63 for the forthcoming season. His home, away and warm up shirts will be available to “own and loan”. Full details will be announced shortly.
