The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce that long-serving forward Ken Armstrong will be returning for his 10th year with the Club.
Armstrong was one of the first players to join the Wild when the team started back in 2013 and he took part in their very first game. Since then he has notched up 266 appearances in Widnes colours, scoring 21 goals and 30 assists and picking up 50 penalty minutes.
In his time at the Wild, Armstrong has helped the team win three Laidler Play off titles, one league title, the North 21 Cup, the Moralee Cup, the National Division 1 Championship and he was part of the squad that finished in third place in their debut season in the Moralee Division last season.
Ken is the leading appearance holder for the Wild – two ahead of Tom Jackson – and is a firm favourite among fellow players, team staff and fans. Aside from his obvious playing abilities, he has also acquired a cult status over the years for sitting out other players’ penalties so will probably see his fair share of the penalty box again next season.
He learnt his junior hockey at Altrincham and went on to play over 80 ENL / NIHL league games for the Lancashire Raptors and Blackburn Eagles, before joining the Wild.
Talking about his return to the Club for the new season, Armstrong said:
“I’m pleased to be back for another year with the Wild. I’m looking forward to getting back on the ice with the team and getting the season started in front of the best fans in the league.”
Wild player coach Richard Haggar said:
“The return of the King! Ken returns for his 10th year at Widnes and is a stalwart for the club. He is not only loved by the fans but everyone in the changing room too and still has a lot to offer to the team. He is a true professional who gives it his all in training and games for the team.”
Ken will once again be wearing the No. 9 shirt. His home, away and warm up shirts will be available to “own and loan”. Full details will be announced shortly.
