Sunday 2nd April – WNIHL Div 2 N
Kingston Diamonds 1 – DMUK Widnes Wild Women 12
The DMUK Widnes Wild women’s team bounced back from their disappointing home defeat against Solway Sharks last week to notch up a comprehensive 1-12 win away to Kingston Diamonds in Hull on Sunday.
The Wild women were on top from the start and outshot their hosts by 76 to 28 over the course of the 60 minutes. Preston Gennoe opened the scoring for Widnes with just 78 seconds on the clock and further goals from Katie Fairclough and Rachael Pearce saw them leading comfortably 0-3 at the first period break.
The - largely - one way traffic continued in the second period and a second Gennoe goal followed 70 seconds from the restart.
Two more goals from Pearce, one from Jennifer Hickey and one from captain Leen de Decker just 9 seconds after that gave the Wild women an 8-goal lead before Kingston scored what was to be their only goal of the game on 38 minutes.
The third period saw two more goals each for Fairclough and de Decker, meaning that along with Rachael Pearce, three Wild players scored hat-tricks in the game.
The 1-12 win means that Widnes remain in second place in the league table, 2 points behind leaders Solway who have games in hand. The Wild women play their last game of the regular season on Sunday 23rd April when they take on Leeds Roses at Planet Ice Widnes, 4.25pm face off, in a game that they need to win to have a chance of reaching the end of season play offs.
