The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce that former player Calum Ruddick will be returning to the team for the new 2022/23 NIHL season.

Ruddick really needs no introduction to Wild fans as he was one of the first players ever to sign for the club when it started back in 2013 and he took part in the first ever game to be played at Widnes.

In his three seasons with the Wild, Calum played 79 games, scoring 10 goals and 17 assists, picking up 194 penalty minutes

He played his early hockey at Deeside and made over 50 appearances for the Dragons and their forerunners the Flintshire Freeze. For the past 2 years, Ruddick has been a member of the Blackburn Hawks N1 team. He made 14 appearances, scoring 1 goal and 1 assist in the Moralee Division last season before a rather unfortunate –and widely reported – incident saw him pick up a suspension for the remainder of the season.

Talking about his return to the Wild, Ruddick said:

” I’m really happy to be back at Widnes. After a few conversations with Rich during the last year and a few changes away from hockey, it was an easy decision. I have no doubts the team will play good hockey, after a rough season for me personally I’m just looking forward to getting back to playing and enjoying my hockey. I’m looking forward to seeing a few old faces and meeting the new fans. “

Wild player coach Richard Haggar said of Ruddick: “Calum is an experienced player at this level and will add invaluable experience to the team. He has played for Widnes previously so knows what the expectations are and will assist with the younger players in the dressing room to aid their development over this season. I am looking forward to seeing Cal focus on his hockey and helping us have a successful year.”

Calum will wear the number #91 for the forthcoming season. His home, away and warm up shirts will be available to “own and loan”. Full details will be announced shortly.
