The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce that highly rated defenceman Lee Kemp will be returning to play for the forthcoming 2022/23 NIHL season.
The 34 year old defenceman learnt his hockey in the Nottingham junior system and played for the Lions and Peterborough Islanders in the then ENL before joining the Wild for the 2015/16 season.
In his 6 full seasons to date at Widnes – plus the 2021 Spring streaming series – Kemp has played 216 games for Widnes and has scored 12 goals and 49 assists from his defensive position, picking up 425 penalty minutes.
In terms of all time appearances for the Wild, Kemp is in joint 3rd position, level with Bez Hughes and behind Ken Armstrong and Tom Jackson who have 266 and 264 respectively.
Lee was an important part of the team that finished 3rd in the Moralee Division and won the Moralee Cup last season and has previously won three Laidler Division play off crowns and one league title. He was also a member of the Wild team that won the North 21 Cup.
Talking about his return to Widnes, for what will be his 8th season with the club, Lee Kemp said:
“I’m happy to be back for my 8th year with the Wild. It’s an amazing club to play for and arguably the best fans I’ve played in front of. Hopefully we can get a good team together and go one step further than last year which is a big aim of ours. I can’t wait to get going and be around the boys old and new – they are a special group of players”
Wild player coach Richard Haggar said of Kemp’s return:
“The Sheriff is back for another season. He is a true professional both on and off the ice. He leads by example and gives direction to the younger players on our team which I will be looking for him to continue to do this year.”
Lee Kemp will once again wear the number 15 shirt and his home, away and warm up shirts are available to “own and loan” at a cost of £80.00 per shirt for the season.
