Weekend Preview

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild will be looking to extend their winning run to three in a row when they take on the Blackburn Hawks in the Moralee Division this Sunday 13th November at Planet Ice Widnes, 5.30pm face off.

The Wild and the Hawks have built up a fierce rivalry in recent seasons and games between the two are always keenly anticipated by both sides.

Since stepping up to the higher Moralee Division in 2020, and competing on a level playing field for the first time, Widnes have played Blackburn 8 times and have a narrow advantage with 5 wins to 3 and a goals tally of 44 to 26.

Blackburn are currently in 7th place in the Moralee Division table with 4 wins from their 10 league games so far this season – three of them over bottom club Sheffield and the other over Deeside Dragons. Widnes are two places ahead of them with 5 wins from 10 games.

The Wild haven’t played Blackburn yet this season so Sunday’s game will have double significance as the first meeting home and away between all the teams in the league also counts towards the Moralee Cup qualifying table.

As usual, after the game, two Wild players will be available to meet with supporters for photos and autographs. Please note that this is now taking place in a new location in the corner of the rink by the entrance to the changing rooms - and not down by the café as was the case in previous years.

For anybody who is not able to attend Sunday’s game, the Wild’s broadcasting partners BASN are livestreaming all home league games this season over the internet. Online viewing tickets can be booked to watch the game HERE

Note: With the Blackburn game falling on Remembrance Sunday, there will be some extra formalities before face off and spectators are asked to arrive in plenty of time. Face off is at 5.30pm and doors open at 4.45.

WILD JUNIOR ACADEMY

This Saturday 12th November sees the Academy Under 14 team at home to Solihull U14s at Planet Ice Widnes – 4.20pm face off – followed by the Wild Academy Under 18s against Sheffield Under 18s.

On Sunday the Wild Under 10 team have a cross ice tournament away at Blackburn featuring the host team plus Bradford and Manchester, starting at 4.45pm

Admission to all Academy home games at Planet Ice Widnes is free and spectators are encouraged to come along and cheer on the stars of the future.
